Hi folks! ;
July 19, 2005
I did the update for
2004 and did all the things that technology dictates. I found out
later...much later, that due to more high tech difficulties that all my
updates and changes were lost and that for the better part of the year my
site was not available at all. Don't you just love high tech.
Touring in 2004 was light due to David having other commitments however
Ariel and I played on the west coast and did a couple of radio shows in
England. In the meantime we built a recording studio to start producing our
next CD. I am looking at mixing traditional components with contemporary
styling and see how that works out.
In the meantime I have been producing a jazz singer, Lara Skye
who is a wonderful songwriter and performer and has great potential to be
the next new kid on the jazz block.
I have branched out and now play with a couple of other acts.
1. Poor Aengus which is a total Celtic Thrash Band with pipes,
fiddle, whistles and the lot. We are just getting going and already work is
coming our way. I may be incorporating this new sound into my projects as
well.
2. Don McGeogh who is a local Scottish singer/songwriter.
We have done some interesting family combinations with Beth Rogers,
Ariel Rogers and myself and we have a show coming up in Toronto on
the September long weekend which will also include
David Rogers
(Sunday as I am told). I'll post the detail soon. Our show for the Vital
Spark folk club this past May went over so well Don Bird got word and called
Beth to see if we could do a show for him. I think the theme is "Performing
Families" which will include The Whitely's and others. Sorry
I'm not sure of the exact line up at this time.
I will try to do the performance schedule this week now that
the technology seems to be working.
We just got back from Nova Scotia where we played at
StanFest
and it was a blast. I played with
Bruce Guthro,
The Cottars,
Matt Anderson
,who is a fabulous blues player, my good friend
Ron Hynes and many other artists.
I highly recommend you check out
Nathan Rogers new CD. Nate has a tour of Western Canada coming up
so if you are in the area do go and see him.
February, 2003
Well I should have been on the ball and kept my website up to date according
to my fans. ...well you're right as usual so I am sitting here playing
webmaster of my own domain so to speak.
What has been keeping me so busy is getting my pilot's license. Boy it
sure takes a lot of time and my music career has suffered a little due to my
temporary preoccupation with the sky.
What we have planned for this year is our usual haunts in Ontario, Quebec
and the Maritimes but I am going to try to add a West Coast Tour by the
fall. We have yet to launch in earnest "Easy Street" as "Poets and Painters
is still selling and getting airplay. However I think it's time to push the
new one before I'm through writing the next one ..."don't ya think"!
I have posted a few dates for this year but will be up-dating that list
over the next few weeks. Guess I need a website manager.
Since September we have played local clubs and concerts with a trip to
New York to attend the NERFA (North East Folk Alliance) conference then
along came Christmas and the annual "rip and tear".
We headed down to San Diego California in January and performed a
couple of times but most of the time was spent soaking up the sunshine.
...boy I could get used to that. Now you'd think that we'd have more
pictures but seems both Ariel and I are terrible at remembering to take the
camera...ok we'll work on that.
I am just preparing for my flight test and exam as a pilot and should
have my license by end of March provided the weather holds long enough to
get up flying.
I am working on adding some additional musicians to the mix to give us a
different sound instrumentally. First in line is a fiddle player so I'll let
you know how that turns out. We have added some traditional folk music to
our show to give an even more eclectic feel to what we do. David Rogers is
touring with Aengus Finnan for the next 6 weeks so we won't be heading out
until about mid April 2003.
I hope that gives you a bit of an update. Hope to see you all soon!
Cheers,
Scott, Ariel and David
September, 2002
You know I don't know where the time has gone! Although I try to keep the
bookings stuff updated I totally neglected the Note Pad section of what we
were up to.
Since December we have done a tour in Ontario and Quebec and the East
Coast. I am going to have to go over my road stories and update this
section. I will do that soon so keep an eye out.
Tomorrow we are off to Winnipeg for the Prarie Music Week. I will try to
update everything when we get back.
Cheers

We made it through Christmas...almost. Our Christmas is kind of extended due to the family being spread out so we party until New Years...sound good? Ariel, David and Myself would like to wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
We are almost done Easy Street but it may be delayed on release by about a month. We're gearing up for the 2002 season so we look forward to see you all again this year. For those who haven't heard us yet we invite you out and please come up and say hello!
October 8, 2001
Octoberfolk was great, we had such a wonderful time. With some new tunes under
our belt we hit the stage with a six piece band and rocked. I think
we surprised a few people and "Easy Street" will be a much anticipated CD.
Campbellville the next day was a hoot. It was an outdoor venue and we played in
a virtual blizzard. Ariel was my windbreak and took the brunt of the snow.
After our fingers froze we couldn't feel pain and rocked on anyway. I think the
audience and the drive-by's were surprised to see us up there and at it. All
in all it was fun and we had a good time.
We are in the studio producing "Easy Street and about half way through. Release
may be in the late fall but more likely January given our schedule and pressing.Tears of a Thousand Years
I am also involve in a project "The Candadian Musicians September 11 Relief Fund"
which is putting together a compilation CD in order to raise money for the
victims. It should be released by mid November. There will be a concert in
Oakville, Ontario to launch it. Some of the Artists are Valdy, David Bradstreet
,Nancy White, Eileen McGann, Brent Titcomb, James Gordon and yours truly to name a few. There are 20 cuts
with each cut from a different artist. The CD is terrific
so plan to get one and help out a good cause. I will post a date for the
concert when it is confirmed.

Well we are back in the studio folks...ya I know some people never learn...LOL.
We are working on the CD "Easy Streets" which will be out this fall, I hope.
It depends on when we get finished and pressing. This CD will have a bit of a
different feel to it in that some of the material will have more of an
edge to it but the acoustic vocal approach which has become our signature
will remain intact.
In rememberance to those lost in the events of the past week I will try to
include "The Flowers of September" to honour those lost and send my prayer
for the ultimate peace we all pray for.
July 19, 2001 Fun on the East Coast!
Boy what a great time we had. We started of in Cape Breton home of the
fiddle and Celtic tradition. Louisbourg is a picturesque tourist town with
lots of friendly citizens. We were put up at Greta's B&B up on the hill
overlooking the harbour and the fort. Greta even waited up until we got
home from the gig just like mom.
Louisbourg Playhouse is in the round and a wonderful venue to play. Thanks
to Bill for the excellent job on sound.
Next stop Canso the annual Stan Rogers Folk Festival. It is hard to belive
but this town swells from about 1200 to 12,000 in the course of a few days.
The festival itself was marvelous. I caught up with old friends and met
new ones. It has to be one of the worlds friendliest folk festivals.
I was touring with Ariel Rogers and David Rogers and by all accounts
we knocked them dead with killer vocals. Thanks to Trevor Mills for
sitting in on bass guitar, ...you rock! I had a chance to play with David
Bradstreet, the incomperable Valdy and,Lynne Miles to name a few. Hung out with
my good friends The Waifs, Josh, Vicki and Donna enjoying that Aussie
sense of humour. (Hi guys if you read this)
Got some mandolin lessons from JP Cormier and Chojo of the Waybacks. ...
and thanks Steve (The Waybacks) for help on "Compadres in the Sierra Madres".
Although the weather was good the winds were something esle. I thought
we were going to end up in the Land of Oz for a bit. ...they just called
it a Nova Scotia breeze... sheesh. ...but none the less a great time was
had by all. Thanks to the organizers and volunteers for making our stay a
memorable one. WE'll BE BACK....
Next stop was Sherbrooke for a couple of dates where we played with the
likes of Lenny Gallant, Ron Hynes and John Grace. Great show guys. I think
our show surprised audience and performers alike judging by the feedback.
Lenny and the guys said "Awsome vocals and great songs...". Thanks guys, you too!
Sherbrooke is an amazing town where evrybody is your friend and it is
a beautiful village. The Courthouse gig was such great fun set in an
18th century village staffed by the nicest bunch of people you'd ever want
to meet. The food was beyond excellent. Homemade and home good, made the
old fashioned way where flavour was real not artificial. ...gotta go back
there for sure.
Then it was off to PEI where we were joined by Sharon Ogilvie (bassist extrordinare).
Thanks Sharon, wonderful playing. After a brief stopover in Charlottetown to see
"A Matter of Heart" (A show that is absolutly amazing.) we were in Georgetown
at the Kings Playhouse. What a wonderful venue! We really enjoyed playing
there. It is a 300 seat theatre with and huge stage to work from with
great acoutics. The staff like all east coasters were tremendous.
We stayed in a little place called Montague just down from Georgetown, a
nice town with no night life. We couldn't find a party no matter how
hard we tried. Here's one for you... One of the local bars closed up
early because the patrons got too drunk...hmmm...imagine that!
Then it was off to Halifax home of the east coast fog that has the consitancy
of a slurpy! ...boy can it get thick. We played at The Old Triangle Ale House
owned by Brian Doherty and Kevin Evans. Thanks for giving
us such a great place to play Super Pub!!! We look forward to coming back.
By Tuesday night it was standing room only and we rocked, if I do say
so myself! Thanks to Mike Doyle who sang with us and both Mike and Kieth Adams who gave us a roof over our heads.
The Old Triangle has terrific food too, a good place to go if you're in
Halifax. We met up with Dave and Roger Stone who are performers and songwriters.
and I even wrote a last verse for one of Dave's tunes. ...hope you can use it...GRIN!
I learned the fine art of pumping up beer and drink sales from the stage.
They have this tradition down there when someone says "Sociable" you raise
a glass and have a drink. Now seeing that all east coasters are pretty
sociable this was not a problem... to those of us not acustomed to this it
was a good thing we could walk home. All in all a pretty good time.
Then it was back up to the Seabreeze Campground for some well deserved
R&R. I can't say enough about the people of Canso or the staff and friends
we have at the Seabreeze. The scenery is drop dead gorgeous, the
weather was perfect, music almost every night around the campfire with enough
sea food to choke a horse it doesn't get better than that.
Weeeeeee loved it! Whales were reported
sporting in the bay so to speak but eluded me...darn! Of course it
probably would have helped if I had been up before noon. :-)
We played at the Brew Pub in Guysborough, which according to David
has the best pizza in the world, and for the Canso Cenntenial. The mayor
came out to thank us for performing and we raised some money for a local
project. "To Canso...It was our pleasure!"
The whole tour was tremendous and a huge thanks to all from Ariel, David
and myself for making it so. We got asked back everywhere we played so we
will return to those venues as well as adding a few more.
For now we have a concert in Brantford this weekend, a Western Tour to book
and new songs to write for the new CD coming out this fall.
May 1, 2001
Well I really enjoyed opening for Harvey Andrews. I found his music and lyric
well crafted and had a delightful charm to it. Awsome stage presence. The audience at the Tranzac were
terrific and gave us a warm welcome. Judging by the feedback they enjoyed our
songs very much. Hopefully we'll gain a few fans in Toronto who will come out
to see us when we are in town.
A big thanks to Rana for brining us in and also to Jason for great sound tech
work.
We are looking forward to our two gigs at the Free Times Cafe. One May 8th and
the other June 5th. Those of you who are local I hope you can make it. Should
be a good night of fun.
The East Coast Tour has us really excited. Everyone has been so helpful. Right
now we are doing 7 dates confirmed but hope to add a few more as we go.
We also want to take a little time to see the wonderful sights and enjoy the company
of good friends. I can feel some great jam sessions coming on...
Canso and the Stanfest is extrodinary and I can't recommend it enough. It
is a serious good time...and don't plan on sleeping much. The music down
there goes until dawn if you let them. ...come to think of it, you can't
stop them. The local musicians are outstanding, let alone the imports.
April 23, 2001
I'd like to thank Rick and Heather Fielding for having us on the Acoustic Workshop. We had a great time.
I'd recommend the show to all who are interested in good acoustic music.
It's also on the web so wherever you are you can listen in.
The call letters are CIUT 89.5 in the Toronto area.
Heather tells me it can be picked up within a 100 mile radius of Toronto
so there ya go! Here's the link Acoustic Workshop.
It's every Monday between 6-7pm.
March 1, 2001 Well things are just humming along. We Attended the Canadain Folk
Alliance Conference in B.C. and boy what a feeding frenzy for a first
timer. There were around 2000 people there with about 800 musicians
jumping up and down screaming "SEE ME!". Well ya can't blame them for
marketing. I hadn't seen that many fiddles this side of Cape Breton.
I think they were breeding them in the stairwells! ...just kidding!
It was really a lot of fun as well as hard work. For those of you
yet to go I'd recommend getting a good deal of sleep beforehand! I enjoyed meeting all the musicians, volunteers, radio types, directors etc.
Boy have those directors have got a tough job. I can't imagine how they'd get
around to all the artists trying to get their attention.
For those who haven't made it, it's a real learning experience. For those
that have, I'd bet you know what I'm talking about.
Check out the Performance updates as I will try to post them as
soon as I get them.
In the meantime, all the best and hope to see you soon.
Look forward to seeing you all soon!!!
