The Fisherman and "The Lady"
The fisherman and 'The Lady',
Been married near thirty-eight years.
She's been jiggin' squid like his father did
Some forty-five years ago.
She served as one, both father and son,
Faithful as the day;
To and from the 'Banks,' with little thanks
To earn her fisherman's pay.
Chorus:
So damn the gales and haul the sails,
It's a fisherman's son I'll be!
Well, I've run out of luck
And I ain't got a buck
But they won't get the best of me!
I became a man with these two hands
And the help of the fine “Lady”
So when i die, don't stop to cry,
Just take me out to sea.
Soft as the morning mist she waits
Dancing by the quay;
Strong in loving silence
Well, she longs to go to sea.
And she sings the song of a better time
As she bends beneath the wind;
She does her best to drag the nets
And bring me home again.
Chorus:
Times are harder now, I think,
Than my father ever saw.
Those factory tanks cleaned the 'Banks'
With the tons of fish they draw.
But I cast my nets and I take my chance,
'Cause it's all I ever do;
And I pray to God for a run of cod,
'Cause it's all I ever knew.
Chorus:
