Here are some answers to questions we have received over the years.

Q: I can't find some of the content on the old version of the Stan site.  What's the deal?
A: We're currently updating the site a few pieces at a time.  There's a LOT of data, so thanks for your patience!  Trust us, you won't be disappointed once we're done!


Q: When was Fogarty's Cove Music established?

A: In 1976, surrounding the production of Stan's second album, Turnaround. The original graphic was designed by Garnet.


Q: How many albums did Stan release?
A: Stan released four albums before his death. Five more have been released since then, the last being From Coffee House to Concert Hall (1999). Other albums dedicated to Stan's music include Remembering Stan Rogers (Vols. I & II), and A Matter of Heart.


Q: When and how did Stan die?
A: Stan died in an airplane fire on June 2, 1983. He was one of 23 people who did not survive the fire. Their deaths began the inquiry which led to the massive changes in requirements for improved airline safety - especially the removal of deadly combustible materials used in airplane construction.


Q: Where is Stan buried?
A: Stan was cremated and his ashes were scattered in the Atlantic Ocean off the northeastern shore of Nova Scotia.


Q: Was Stan from Nova Scotia?
A: Stan was born in Hamilton, Ontario and grew up in the area. Both of his parents, Valerie Bushell and Al Rogers hail from Nova Scotia. The northeastern shore of Nova Scotia was a lifelong favourite holiday haunt.


Q: Who were Stan's biggest influences?
A: There were many, most notably Joni Mitchell and Gordon Lightfoot, not to mention many of Stan's contemporaries - David Essig, Archie Fisher, The Friends of Fiddler's Green to name a few. Read more in the official biography by Chris Gudgeon.


Q: Will there be another Stan album released?
A: From Coffee House to Concert Hall is probably the final release of Stan's recorded work.

Q: Why are there only excerpts of Stan's songs here?  I want full mp3s!
A: If you would like to listen to any of Stan's work in full, you can order an album here.  We're not providing full-length mp3s, as it defeats the purpose of maintaining the business Stan created.


Q: 'Songs From Fogarty's Cove' has the music for the first four albums. Where do I get the music for the remaining songs?
A: We are working on another song book to cover the rest of the albums.


Q: Where can I get a published book on Stan?
A: See Chris Gudgeon's Northwest Passage (Quarry Press). A revised version of Chris' original biography, An Unfinished Conversation, it is available here.


Q: I'm a musician and want to record one of Stan's songs. Do I need permission?
A: You bet! The songs aren't public domain, so please contact Fogarty's Cove Music for Mechanical/Synchronization Licenses.


Q: I hear there's a Stan Rogers Folk Festival. Where is it?
A: It's in Canso, Nova Scotia, the first weekend in July. Click here for their web site.


Q: I'd like to make my own Stan web page. Can I add music and photos?
A: We appreciate the support of all of our fans, including those who help celebrate Stan's music and life on the Internet. We ask that everyone respect our wishes in keeping stanrogers.net the primary source of information and material. If you have any Stan-related stories on your web site (and other details not in conflict with copyright laws), send us your link and you can be added to our "Friends" page!


Q: I heard there was a petition to get Stan into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. How's that going?
A: This is being managed by the folks at Geist Magazine.


Q: Where are the people who played with Stan now?
A: Garnet continues to perform as a solo artist throughout North America. Other band members & frequent co-performers such as David Woodhead, David Alan Eadie and Jim Morison have all continued to remain involved in the music scene. Grit Laskin continues his work on stage and in the guitar shop, as well as appearing on the Borealis label.  Paul Mills, now runs his own production company, Millstream, in Toronto.


Q: Where can I get more stuff from FCM? Can I order online?
A: Our Mail Order Department has albums by Stan and other FCM artists, as well as books, videos, and clothing. Check it out!
